What is Process Control System Animation?

A process control system (PAS) provides automatic control of processes in factories and refineries. Sensors, controllers, operator terminals and actuators are accessed and connected through the use of networks. Paper mills, pulp factories, oil refineries, mining operations, cement and chemical factories often make us of PAS in order to operate at higher efficiency standards and with more safety.
While a distributed control system (DCS)tends to be brand owned, a PAS does not. The PAS has tended to be based on open standards, but is more recently associated with SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition). MES (manufacturing execution system) is one level above PAS, the lowest automation level.
Without process automation, plant managers must manually monitor systems and settings, relying on human observation to determine maximum proficiency settings for production equipment. Machinery and equipment is maintained at specific intervals. Human error can affect the process and the end result. Operation is less efficient and unsafe conditions can occur.
With process automation, both machines and the plant as a whole can be monitored using a large screen in a central control room. Thousands of sensors are strategically placed around the factory and equipment. These sensors are constantly collecting data (pressure, flow, temperature, etc.) which is then computer analyzed.
Operational settings are automatically adjusted by the control process. Should the need arise, the plant operators can manually override the automatic settings. This provides greater efficiency as well as safer operating conditions. Plants and factories of all types can benefit from the use of PAS.
